The following song, which has never before appeared in
print, was sung at the feast given by his majesty, to the
Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal, the 5th of August, 1767.
While ven'son we eat, and while claret we drink,
On royalty let us with gratitude think;
And while hallelujahs to heaven we sing,
Harmoniously blessings invoke on the King.
To George raise the lay; may he prosperous reign;
And we meet to wish it again and again!
Then charge high each glass,
But be merry and wise,
Let the sound around pass,
Wit and humour wise.
Thus our annual mirth our great master shall please,
and we all think his Chapel a Chapel of ease.
