From the Connecticut Courant, of Jan. 18.
From trifle to trifle, this volatile age,
Still varies and nothing but trifles engage.
They none but the triglingest authors peruse,
And trifling amusements their senses amuse.
A trifling brisk fellow is highly prefer'd,
A trifling gay madam is greatly admir'd.
And still, as if trifling, or trifling fell short,
Things solemn and serious to trifles convert.
Their time, and their health, and their money too they,
And e'en reputation they trifle away.
Honesty and honor are trifles become,
  And conscience itself capriciously dumb.
The system of morals a trifle they call,
And religion is made the grand trifle of all!
