Boston, Dec. 24. Please to insert these few lines,
occasioned by The Resolution of a young lady not to die a
maid, and you'll oblige, Your's, &c.
Most grievous lot! most dread, most dismal state;
To die a maid, ye pow'rs, avert the fate,
Of all the ills, this is the worst, I'm sure,
To live and maid and die a virgin pure.
Thus Polly spoke,--O! let me be a bride,
Grant that ye Gods, I care for nought beside.
To be a wife, I long, I rage, I burn,
If not a bride, to something else I'll turn.----
