MEN AND MANNERS. An Epigram
Dropp'd in a Coffee-House.
Not quite half virtuous, scare half wise,
And truth, a pretty world it is;
Brisk shallow fools pretend to think,
Dull sots to rake and wench, and drink;
Smooth coxcombs languish, dance and dye,
And love in prose and poetry;
Asses look grave, and owls look wise,
And little wits will criticize.
