ACROSTICK. Brentwood, Sept. 27th, 1773.
W ou'd heaven be pleas'd to assist my dull, unthinking muse,
I 'd inform the fair-sex of some most melancholy news.
L adies! Last night, Miss Deby Thing was wed to Master
Keous.
L ove and all the noble virtues, which feeble mortals scan,
I nspir'd the hearts of this fair miss, and this fine
gentleman.
A h! Happy nymph, the ladies seem to cry in deep dispair,
M ayn't we in equal love, of him possess an equal share!
K' ing David's wives and concubines made him a happy King,
E xtremely blest is our new groom, in his fine little thing.
O ur groom six nights with Cupid's darts his Chloe warmly
ply'd,
U pon the seventh, a Sunday eve, the solemn knot was ty'd.
S o heaven made him the blissful groom, and her his thrice
blest bride.
