New-Haven, Sept. 4. By advice of a Council of war, last
Thursday night and Friday morning, the whole of our army
then on Long Island, returned to New-York, and brought off,
it is said; all their camp equipage, cannon stores, &c.
Their return was conducted with such secrecy, that it was
not discovered by the enemy until all our army and baggage
were got over, and only three persons who left the island
last in the batteau, fell into their hands. . . [30 more
