In looking among some old papers the following parody made
it's appearance--It was wrote in Sir Edmund Andros's time,
and will answer as a pattern for moddelling a creed for some
of our modern double fac'd gentry. If worth a place in
Poet's Corner, you are at liberty to insert it.
I love with all my heart --- Episcopacies cause
To take New England's part --- Is quite against God's laws
For righteous to the cause --- To try for such a thing
I own New England's laws --- Will England's ruin bring
My conscience gives consent --- I be on the Bishop's side
To be of that intent --- I ever have deny'd.
This is my mind and heart, --- Of this opinion I
The few will take my part, --- Intend to live and die.
