UPON THE LARGEST JEWEL'S DROPPING OUT OF HIS MAJESTY'S CROWN
ON HIS CORONATION
Well I remember on that crouded day
A serious omen of an early date,
Which threaten'd a convulsion of the state;
When on thy brow they plac'd the royal crown,
Than the most precious jewel tumbl'd down:
Now it is verify'd-events must tell,
The jewel was America-that fell.
