[On the death of Sir Matthew Hale] I shall here add not one
printed in his works, and therefore, probably, it was the
last he wrote; it is a paraphrase of Simeon's song; and
being taken from a soul copy, not revised by the author, the
reader must make allowance for whatever imperfections he may
discover in it:
Blessed creator! who, before the birth
Of time, or o'er the pillars of the earth
Were fix'd or form'd, didst lay that great design
Of man's redemption, and didst define,

Thus he used to sing on the former Christmas-days. . .
