Newport, August 20. . . As we have always manifested a
great attachment and complaisance to Boston fashions,
however ridiculous and extravagant, it is to be hoped we
shall not shew an aversion to such as are decent, prudent,
and reputable . .. . And if our ladies should cast an eye of
prudence around them, when they next figure out for a ball
or public entertainment, they may doubtless be convinced,
that their charms would receive full as many compliments if
bedecked with but one half of the expence.
