I take this public method to acquaint those gentlemen and
ladies who belong and are entitled to the dancing school,
that next Thursday evening I shall open school, and every
Thursday after for the season, on condition the gentlemen
and ladies conform to the former and following rules, act in
character, and behave with a decency agreeable to that most
approved accomplishment.----I expect every lady that attends
for the pleasure and improvement of their dancing, will be
punctual at sunset, as no lady shall be admitted an hour
after, except a stranger.---No lady shall engage, either in
school or out, to dance with any gentleman without my
approbation.--No lady shall refuse being taken out by any
gentleman that's admitted by a ticket, without giving a
sufficient reason, on pain of being publickly reprimanded,
and immediately dismissed.--No gentleman nor lady shall come
in an undress.--No gentleman shall be admitted without a
ticket.--None to be admitted that don't dance.--The number
of gentlemen not to exceed sixteen.--The hours from five to
nine.
As I shall, on those nights, give strict attendance in the
school, those that incline to engage for the season, in this
genteel amusement, with an intention to be subservient to
the above, will be very respectfully treated and received,
by their very humble servant, Mary Cowley.
A ball to be held at the assembly room next Monday, to
begin at 4 o'clock.--Any parents that incline to see the
performances of their children, who are presented with
tickets, shall meet with a kind reception from the
subscriber. [signed] M.C.
