London, June 5. The noble ardor which glows in the breasts
of the British nation for the liberty of mankind in general,
and generous sympathy for the distressed, never appeared in
a more conspicuous light than in the contributions which
have been made in behalf of brave Corsicans. .. . A sincere
well-wisher to the glorious cause put his mite into the box,
which was fixed at the exhibition room, Pall-Mall, for
receiving contributions, inclosed a piece of paper, with the
following lines:
To shew my love for liberty,
And add to Paschal's store,
With joy I freely give my mite,
And wish I could give more.
. . . [4 lines, signed] R.R. a subaltern officer of the
army on half pay.
