6 May 1780:43 (973)
I take this method to acquaint the gentlemen and ladies,
that next Thursday evening will be opened a public school,
to be continued until the last of May, for the better
improvement of those now learning, and for the practice of
those who have formerly been taught at my school. Likewise
those gentlemen and ladies, who would wish to partake in
this genteel amusement, may depend upon the strictest good
orders being kept up.--The hours for dancing from 6 to 9.--
Each gentleman paying half a dollar a ticket, or the
exchange in currency;--Gentlemen scholars at a lesser
price.--No gentleman to be admitted without a ticket, except
parents, who will be received with every due respect, by
their very humble servant, Mary Cowley. Newport, April 12,
1780.
