University of Cambridge, April 9, 1781. On Wednesday last
the following performances were exhibited in the chapel,
before a committee of the honorable and reverend Board of
Overseers, and a respectable company of gentlemen and
ladies, by a number of students, as specimens of the
progress of literature and the polite arts, in this
university. . . . An anthem and tune were then sung by the
choir of singers. Instrumental music as performed while the
committee were entering, and also while they were leaving
the chapel.
