Norwich, Sept. 26. On Wednesday the eleventh instant, there
was an oratorical exhibition at the academy at Plainfield.
After the usual procession, the exercise was introduced with
music, performed by the students and some of the gentlemen
and ladies of the town; which was seconded by a prayer,
adapted to the occasion: They followed select pieces,
speeches, and dialogue; from the ancient and modern poets,
orators and historians, in Greek, Latin, French, and
English; but principally in the latter language;
. . . The students, in their various characters, acquitted
themselves to the high satisfaction of the hearers; and an
admitted Latin ode, sung by the students solely, concluded
the whole.
