Philadelphia, September 26. . . [We have information] that
the Grand Duke of Tuscany having arrived in the army
commanded by General Bathiani and Count Traun near
Frankfort, went to attack the French army under the Prince
de Conti, who retreated, in great confusion, in order to get
over the Rhine, but the Duke follow'd him so close that the
French lost in the retreat a great number of men. -- He also
follow'd the Prince de Conti over the Rhine and overtook and
forced him to a battle, wherein the French were entirely
routed, and had
15,000 killed,
9,000 wounded,
2800 officers kill'd, wouuded & pris.
179 pieces of ordnance, 200 colours, 38 kettledrums, 120
wagons taken.
Besides all the Prince of Conti's plate, cloths, &c.
which the Grand Duke sent back to the Prince again. . .
