Tunbridge-Wells Nov. 6. Yesterday being the 5th of
November, our young men assembled about eight o'clock round
the Dial-Post, with the Pretender in effigy, in their
middle; . . . [22 lines]
After which they gave a general discharge, with huzzas,
&c. then marched round Mount-Sion and Ephraim, with colours
flying, drums beating, and trumpets sounding, &c. before
them, the commanding officer marched before the Pretender,
who was tied on horseback, with two men on each side to
guard him, and one behind holding the halter in one hand and
a fork in the other; the rest marched after him three a-
breast to the general satisfaction of all the gentry and
inhabitants, who, to encourage it, made a handsome
collection; thus they marched with great regularity round
the place, at proper times singing,
God save brave George our King,
Long live our noble King, &c.
and afterwards firing. . .
