Paris October 14. The day before yesterday Te Deum was sung
for the taking of Namur. . . [1 column, King's letter]
The order which Mess. the Vicars General published for the
singing Te Deum contains, among other things, what follows.
"Heaven has heaped further blessings upon the arms of
France in the Low Countries. Our troops are no longer
sensible of the lengths to which sieges were carried on in
former reigns. The city and castles of Namur have
surrendered in a few days to the arms of a Prince who
inherits the courage and glory of his ancestors. The taking
of this important place is the fruit of a campaign, wherein
valour, capacity and prudence have conquer'd the enemy. . .
