They write from Naples, that the city is excessively
disturbed by robbers and assassins, who almost every night
commit some disorder or other, not withstanding all the
cautions that can be possibly taken to prevent it. The
grand altar of the church of the Jesuits being richly
adorned with plate upon account of the publick prayers for
forty hours, some of these villains made a very brisk
attempt a little after midnight; but the sex[t]on ringing
the bell, alarmed the neighbourhood, and brought thither the
guards posted at no great distance, upon which the robbers
retired without their booty.
