Dear Brother Fool. April 28, 1749. Last night at the fire-
works I sat near a droll gentleman, who, seeing the pavilion
take fire, after the manner of that late very facetious
commedian, Mr. Penkethman, upon a different occasion, cried
out, certainly here is some mistake, for the light of the
cucumber should not come here. That it proved a mistake, it
seems, comes out to be true; and I am credibly informed,
that, upon the unlucky accident, the Chev. Servandoni ran
made, drew his sword, and would have stabb'd somebody
concern'd in the performance, had not Mr. Frederick stepp'd
between, and happily appeased the Chev. by assuring him that
the peace would be made over again, and thereby give an
opportunity to have a new and more magnificent firework,
more punctually performer. I am, &c. when properly
pointed, [signed] Stultus II. Opt.
