ON COL--L P--D--NS Lottery.
Here lies, and here's likely to lie, after all the trouble,
Col--n--l P--d--n's lottery, which was but a b--ble;
You gentlemen adventurers, who have paid down your cash,
Don't be uneasiy, since 'twas charity made you so rash;
Remember what you gave for your tickets, its call'd old
stuff,
At six and a half, then seven, now no more but a puff:
(Query) If it be not best, for all concern'd by consent,
To send in our request, to the R--- Island parliament.
. . . [2 lines introduction to next verse]
(Your) Wise men suffer, (your) good men grieve,
(Your) Knaves invent, and (your) fools believe;
Help (R--- Island) send aid unto us,
Or knaves and fools will quite undo us.
