Canterbury [England], Sept. 27. . . Pontefract cum Carleton,
Sept. 20. Yesterday near this village there was run for by
four ladies of no small distinction, in disguise, a
subscription plate, the best of three heats, which was won,
with great difficulty, by Miss T--rp--n, who got the two
first heats; and, on her coming off the Field Victrix, there
was the greatest acclamations of rejoicing ever known on
such an occasion, and not be parralled amongst the annels of
the preceding ages. She was attended from the field through
Ponterfract with a grand cavalcade of the gentry and other
instruments of musick, very much to the satisfaction of the
spectors,
