AN ELEGY UPON MRS. BURNETT.
Rise Heavenly Muse, but rise with teary wings,
Leave jovial themes, to sing of sadder things.
Let [glouring] clouds obscure the glaring light,
Nor let the moon her influence shed by night.
. . . [6 stanzas of 6 lines each, and 1 stanza of 10 lines,
plus the following refrain after each]
For Burnett, Ah! the pious Burnett's gone,
And left us here, her heavy loss to moan.
