Tunbridge Wells, July 10. Yesterday about 3 in the
afternoon, their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of
Wales, arrived at this place, God be praised, in perfect
health. They were met at Sonibborough by Mr. Elton, the
Minister of the Wells, and all the principal inhabitants,
with cockades in their hats, and the musick playing before
them; a gentleman at their request made the following
speech. . .
To which his Royal Highness was pleased to give the
following answer,
Gentlemen: We [give] you many thanks for this kind
address.
When their Royal Highnesses came to the Wells, they were
received under a triple discharge of 21 large guns. After
they had dined, both their Royal Highnesses came down to the
Walks, the guns firing as they came out of their lodgings,
and as they entered on the Walks, which were finely
illuminated, with a prodigious number of lamps and candles:
The Princess went to [P]odo's Long Room, where her Royal
Highness with Lady Archibald Hamilton, another Lady, and the
Marquis of Caernavon, play'd sometime at Quadrille; about
ten their Royal Highnesses returned to their lodgings on
Mount Son. . .
