The following song, sung at Covent-Garden Theatre, (London)
in the entertainment of the Fair, by Mr. Beard, in the
character of a Recruiting Serjeant, and wrote by Paul
Whitehead, Esq: Poet Lauret to his Majesty; is inserted here
for the use of the Choice Spirits gone on the Campaign to
the Northward, not because we have nothing else to give in
its room, but that we would not be thought backward, in
affording them (amongst the number of our readers) some
amusement in their jovial hours, when opportunity offer'd.
I.
In story we're told
How our monarchs of old
O'er France spread their royal domain;
But no annals can show
Their pride laid so low,
As when brave George the second did reign.

. . . [4 lines]
Let our trumpets now sound
How Britons have conquer'd the news.
. . . [5 verses]
Our fortunes and lives,
Our children and wives,
To defend is the time now or never;
Then let each voluntier
To the drum-head repair--
King George and Old England forever.
