On Tuesday morning last, a little before two o'clock, the
caboose of a ship lying near the Ferry Stairs, took fire,
and might have done great mischief, had it not been timely
discovered; but as it had only taken hold of some boards,
which were easily removed, it was immediately extinguished
without any damage. But the people in their fright alarmed
the town with the cry of fire, and the bells were set to
ringing, tho' the fire was out before the people could
assemble.
