London, Feb. 6. Some of the inhabitants of a certain parish
in Gloucestershire, having a superstitious veneration for
Old Christmas Day, the Ringers having procured the key of
the Church from the Sexton early in the morning, ushered the
day in with a peal, which gave so much offence to the
clergyman of the parish, that he got out of bed immediately,
repaired to the belfry, where the excess of his passion was
so great as to produce a paroxysm, which left him dead on
the spot. This accident has confirmed the parishioners in
their adherence to the old stile, as they look upon it to be
a Judgement on the parson for his supposed contempt of Old
Christmas Day.
