By permission of his honour the Lieutenant-Governor, for the
benefit of Mr. Douglass. By a company of comedians. At the
New Theatre, in Chapel-Street, this present evening, being
the 18th of Feb will be presented, a tragedy, written by the
Reverend Mr. Hume, Minister of the Church of Scotland,
call'd,
Douglass.
The part of Douglass to be perform'd by Mr. Hallam, Lord
Randolph, by Mr. Douglass; Glenalvon, by Mr. Reed; Norval,
by Mr. Morris; Officer, by Mr. Tomlinson; Attendant, by
Mr. Tremain; Anna, by Mrs. Morris, And, the part of Lady
Randolph to be perform'd by Mrs. Douglass.
To which will be added, (by particular desire) a pantomime
entertainment, in grotesque character, call'd
Harlequin Collector:, or the Miller Deceiv'd,
in which is introduc'd the celebrated Skeleton Scene, taken
from the Royal Chase, or Merlin's Cave.
The Character of Harlequin to be perform'd by Mr. Hallam,
the Miller, by Mr. Allyn; Magician, (with a song in
character) by Mr. Sturt; Anatomist, by Mr. Morris; Porter,
by Mr. Tomlinson; the character of the Clown, by Mr.
Douglass. And the character of Columbine, to be perform'd by
Mrs. Douglass. After the Skeleton Scene, the Song of Come
my dear Shepherds, by Mr. Sturt. To conclude with a country
dance by the characters of the entertainment.
To begin exactly at six o'clock.
Tickets to be had of Mr. Gaine, Printer, at the Bible &
Crown, Hanover-Square, and of Mr. Douglass, at his lodgings,
near the theatre. Boxes 8s. Pit 5 s. Gallery 3 s.
Tickets deliver'd at Mrs. Douglass's Benefit will be
admitted. The ceremony of waiting on ladies and gentlemen
at their houses with bills, has been for some time left off
in this company; the frequent solicitations on these
occasions, having been found rather an inconvenience to the
persons so waited on, than a compliment; for which reason,
Mr. Douglass hopes the town will dispense with a personal
application, and favour him with their company.
