Copy of a letter from a sea officer at Portsmouth, to his
friend in London, Nov. 23. One evening, a young gentleman
of Belleisle was introduced to me, by a French surgeon's
mate of our ship; he was extremely polite, and danced beyond
discription [sic], and traversed with the most familiar ease
and dignity through the different steps of minutes [sic],
rigadoons, country-dances, and jiggs; he was perfect in the
Italian and Spanish languages. . . [much more, including the
discovery that "he" was a lady.]
