[A letter from Detroit, August 8, 1763.] The 25th of July,
we landed at Sandusky, (where the fort formerly stood) about
break of day; and instantly marched 8 serjeants, and 160
men, with 5 subalterns, for an Indian town that lay about 6
miles from off the lake: . . . [Description of burning of
one town and battle at another about 50 miles from
Sandusky.] In the morning of the 30th, a detachment was
ordered to march under the command of Capt. Dalyell, of 140
men, with Gray of the 55th, with Major Rogers, Captain
Grant, of the 80th, Lieuts. Brown, Luke, and Narthlow, of
the 55th, with Lieuts. Bain and Cuyler of the Queen's
Rangers, . . . [lists several others] with a proper
proportion of serjeants, corporals, and drummers, and 9
volunteers from the traders,. . .[describes the march and
the battle, listing casualties at the end.]
