His Majesty's equestrian statue was opened on the 20th, amidst the acclamations of an innumerable crowd, among whom the governor of Paris threw a large sum of money on this occasion. In the evening the whole square was illuminated. At the four corners of it were placed four fountains of wine, which was given, together with bread and meat, to the populace, who danced all night to the music placed in orchestras erected at each fountain. |
