Ranelagh Gardens, August 28, 1766. Many of my friends having
intimated to me, that if I lowered the price of admittance,
(especially during the present scarcity of cash) it would
give general satisfaction: Being therefore willing to do
all in my power, (even at the hazard of being a loser) to
acquiesce with every intimation to serve the public; I have
resolved, that the tickets shall pass at the bar for one
shilling, which will be accounted for, as so much cash paid
for any thing the possessor is pleased to call for I return
the gentlemen and ladies, who have honoured me with their
presence, many thanks, and hope for a
continuance of their favours, which will be gratefully
acknowledged, by their very humble servant, John Jones.
