From the Middlesex Journal, of October 17, 1772.  The
following inscription was found last night pasted upon an
equestrian statue newly erected in a certin square, at the
west end of a great city.
"'Tis--Himself--who stiff as any steeple,
Bestrides his horse as he bestrides his people"
O'er them he holds the sword, nor spares the spur,
They foam--and bite the bit--but never stir;"
