Being fully persuaded, that the paper signed Dordracensis,
published in the Mercury No. 44, was entirely founded on the
most palpable matters of fact, and unq[u]estionable
authorities, I was very little concerned at the threats of
poor John Englishman, and his poorer journeyman . . . When I
have heard this, I have frequently thought of the conduct of
the French, who, tho' shamefully beaten, in order to keep up
the fainting courage of their countrymen, go about the
streets, singing Te Deum, in triumph. . . [2 pages, signed]
