evening (Oct. 27th.) these declarations in writing were
publickly read on the bay, to the general joy of the
inhabitants, which was shewn by loud and repeated
acclamations, and the ringing of St. Michael's bells
unmuffled.
Monday morning (Oct. 28th.) St. Michael's bells were again
rang, the vessels in the harbour displayed their colours,
and some gentlemen . . . hoisted an union flag, with the
word "liberty" in the center . . .
