From the Cape Fear (North-Carolina) Mercury, of May 19.
Extract of a letter from an officer of distinction to a
gentleman in Brunswick, dated Alamansee Camp, May 18, 1771.-
"We halted two days at Hillsborough, during which time an
express arrived with the disagreeable news, that the
Regulators had surrounded General Waddell. . . "[50 lines,
describing the response of this officer's regiment, marching
to the rescue, confronting the rebels] "When we came within
half a mile of them, three guns were fired as a signal to
form in order of battle, which was immediatly done, in two
lines about an hundred yards from each other;--They answered
