. . . [4 introductory lines] In your paper of the 13th
instant, we find a declaration put forth to the public, to
which it is said a great number of the inhabitants of
Dutchess County had subscribed, and great numbers daily
adding their names. . . [Entire paragraph of contradiction
of previous declaration, followed by ] This article hath put
a humorous wag in the vicinage, to write thus of them:"The
Tories (says he) are soon to meet in convention. . .
[continues, describes projected activities, including
entertainment] how comfortable also to the more ignorant
part of the convention (who have been drawn in to sign their
creed) to see their leaders indulge themselves in diversions
and pleasures, which, like the playing and singing of
mariners, is a sure sign that the ship is safe and in a
calm. . . [describes the dinner in detail, including tea. .
