[London] June 6. The ball given at St. James's, on Wednesday
night, in honour of his Majesty's birth-day, was very
splendid and numerous. It was opened by his Grace the Duke
of Dorset and Lady Hinchinbrooke; minuets were danced
alternately till past eleven, when country dances commenced.
Their Majesties withdrew at a little past eleven, and all
the nobility before one. The Queen was most splendidly
ornamented with jewels. On her head she bore a beautiful
crown of brilliants, with eleven large diamonds in her hair;
stomacher, bouquet, and sleeve-bows also were immensely
rich.
