Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Portsmouth,
Virginia, to his friend in this city, dated January 24,
1781. . . [Narrative of troops' actions from time of leaving
port through ensuing battle in Virginia, includes] "The 8th,
having got information that 200 rebels were assembled at
Charles City Court House, Capt. Shank, with about 60
cavalry, was sent to attack them; he killed 20, wounded
several and brought off 8 prisoners, with the loss of one
serjeant killed, one trumpeter, and one private wounded. . .
