Yesterday morning the sheriff, accompanied by the magistrates of this city, made proclamation at the court-house, of the cessation of hostilities, amidst a vast concourse of people, who expressed their satisfaction on the happy occasion by repeated shouts. At the same time the state flag was hoisted on Market street wharf, the bells were rang, and a general joy diffused itself throughout the city. |
