By the latest accounts from Philadelphia, we learn, that
last Monday se'nnight, a Mr. Joseph Wirt was tried at a
court of Oyer and Terminer then sitting there, on an
indictment for committing high treason against the state,
and acquitted. The populace being enraged at the decision of
the court, assembled in a tumultuous manner, seized the
unfortunate man, and declared their intention of putting him
to death. Having also laid hold of Mr. Buckeridge Sims,
Thomas Storey, and John Drinker, they paraded through the
city with their victims, attended by drums and fifes,
sounding the Rogues March, or in their phraseology, O poor
