We hear from Yorkshire, that on the first inst. was finished
at Scoles Coppice, near Wentworth-house, an elegant column,
built by the Marquis of Rockingham, in honor of the
acquittal of Admiral Keppel. It is 120 feet in height, and
ascended by 220 steps. On Monday following, a number of the
nobility and gentry assembled on the top to drink the health
of the Admiral; . . . [4 lines, attendees] As soon as they
appeared in the wood, they were saluted with three cheers,
accompanied with the discharge of twenty-one pieces of
cannon, French horns, &c. An elegant cold collation was
provided, with great plenty of wines, &c. Several hogsheads
