Extract of a letter, dated Pedee, in South-Carolina, January
24, 1781. . . [Account of a battle between the British
commanded by Lieut. Col.Tarleton, with 1150 troops, and
"General Morgan, at a place called the Cowpens". Includes]
"The action lasted fifty minutes, when the enemy were
totally routed and defeated. They were pursued, twenty-four
miles. Their loss is. . . [lists personnel, artillery,
equipment] all the drums and fifes of the 71st and 7th
regiments, all the trumpets and bugle horns of the legion. .
. In short, the victory was compleat, and the bravery and
intrepidity of our troops cannot be excelled."
