Ye nations hear th'immortal tale--
Tho' armies press, tho' fleets assail,
Tho' vengeful war's collected stores,
At once united Bourbon pours--

(This is a genuine ode. It is extracted from a London
Magazine, of January 1783 The Poet Laureat in England is
appointed by the crown, and receives a settled salary. The
ode for the new year is always set to music, and performed
at the Court of St. James, in the presence of his Majesty.)
