productive of the most advantagious consequences to
societies, as well as to private men, so ignorance is big
with the most destructive evils . . . [continues, describes
"various companies of men, that collect themselves into
weekly clubs, and societies, in several parts of this city",
and one club formed "to meet every week, to discant upon
learned subjects, in a private apartment". "This club,
consists of twelve or fourteen persons; all men of the
finest parts, true taste, solid judgements, deep erudition,
and a talent to display it."]
