Index Entry | Assemblies, in London, laid aside in religious revival |
Location | London |
Citation | NYWJ.750.020 17 Sep 1750:21 (873) Letter from London. You cannot imagine how seemingly devout and religious, people of all degrees flock to the Church, which have been crowded with folks who seldom or never appear'd there before. If this religious humour continues, we shall want 100 more new churches. Even balls, drums, routs and assemblies are laid aside for the present; the fear of sudden death being more terrible to modern ladies than the thoughts of a future state. |
