EVENING. An Elegiac Poem, sacred to Virtue.
Crown'd with the verdures of departed spring,
Where Pottsgrove's spires reflect the evening gleam,
While fancy prompts, I smite the sounding string,
Swift as the glance of Phoebus' setting beam!

Thy smiles each dreary phantom can dispel,
Can gild the horrors of the murky bow'r,
And tune to harmony the midnight bell.
