London, August 23. On Mr. Wilkes's arrival at Guildford,
the ringers waited on him, and acquainted him they intended
giving him a peal on the occasion, which, without waiting
for an answer, they immediately did, and continued ringing
until orders were sent to the contrary, which silenced them
for some time; but consulting among themselves, it was
unanimously resolved, that as the bells did not articulately
pronounce Wilkes and Liberty, their proceedings could not be
construed into a libel, and therefore they resumed their
diversion.
