London, May 4. . . The Comedy of the Chances, according to
Mr. Garrick's alteration from the Duke of Buckingham, was
performed on Wednesday night at Drury Lane theatre before
their Majesties. It is said this Comedy was played at the
request of her Majesty. Mr. Garrick exerted himself much:
but in nothing did he please the audience more than in a
very just compliment he paid to her Majesty. Frederick
having rallied his friend John (Mr. Garrick) on attaching
himself to a woman of loose character, and who was not
likely to amend, the latter replied: "But example may do
much; especially when the greatest is the best woman in the
nation.
