London, August 5. Extract of a letter from Newcastle, dated
July 24. . . [1 paragraph of general news]
Capt. Nelson also says, that being in the custom-house at
Dublin on Tuesday last, the master of a sloop, who had just
arrived from Neith in Wales, declared, that as the Mifflin
was standing down Bristol channel, she took a sloop, and
having put the master, his wife, and the other people in
their boat, left them to shift for themselves. Whilst they
were rowing towards the shore, they heard a bell ring, which
they made for, and in a short time came up with the Wolfe
sloop of war, who took them up, pursued the Mifflin, and an
engagement ensued, and that the Mifflin struck after the
second broadside from the Wolfe. The Wolfe also retook the
sloop, and gave her to the master. The above are the
particulars as related by Capt. Nelson.
